HQ: A Recipe for the New Year

Friday afternoon, after fighting off a water gun attack, the office staff got together to make the famous Thingyan snack: Mont Lone Yay Paw (known in English by the catchy name: Ball Shaped Cake Snacks Floating In Water). Traditionally made on the third day of Thingyan (a-kyat ne, meaning obstacle) they represent how the maker will "float" over any obstacles they may face in the coming year.

    Make Your Own:

Roll small pieces of the dough in to balls and create a hollow in the middle wth your finger. Like so:

Chop up small pieces of sweet jaggery to put in the hollow and close the ball back up.

Boil the balls in a pot of boiling water. When they float to the top, scoop them out and sprinkle with coconut shavings. Serve on a banana leaf.

    Enjoy! Happy Thingyan!

    YANGON: Mingala-Saung

Our staff have been described as "salty," but for IT technician Kyaw Zeya's wedding, I think we proved we can scrub up pretty nicely. Congratulations Kyaw Zeya!
